Leona Helmsley Wills $12 Million to Her Maltese

August 29th, 2007 · No Comments

Leona Helmsley, a billionaire ($4 billion to be exact) hotel heiress died at the age of 87 last week. Known as the “Queen of Mean” and seen as a cold hearted woman by many of her employees, Leona was definitely not everyone’s favorite person. However, her pet maltese, Trouble, may beg to differ. After her death, Leona’s maltese was willed the largest amount of money out of her family, $12 million. Her dog received more money than her own brother. Trouble was often seen in many of the hotel magnates ads, often sporting trendy small dog clothes and propped on luxury dog beds.

Why would a maltese need $12 million you may ask. Well, so she can go shopping for cute dog beds, designer dog sweaters, and other luxury dog accesssories of course! In reality, Leona had a different idea in mind. The money for Trouble is specifically spelled out to care for the dog, and to make sure that she is buried right next to Leona in the Helmsley Mausoleum when Trouble passes away. Also, the Mausoleum must be steam cleaned at least once a year.

I still can’t really fathom a Maltese needing $12 million for the rest of her doggy life. What in the world could a dog need that would amount to $12 million? Perhaps a diamond encrusted designer leather dog collar, or a luxury dog house made out of rubys? Heck, Leona didn’t even leave 2 of her 4 grandchildren a single penny, yet her Maltese got $12 million? I suppose if I were a billionaire, I would leave some money to take care of my dogs. Also, if my grandchildren were evil little pests, I don’t know if I’d leave them any money either. I guess she had her reasons.

Now if I had a billions of dollars, I would donate lots of it to charity. That is one thing I forgot to mention above. Even though Leona was dubbed the “Queen of Mean”, the majority of her money went to charity. I guess her heart wasn’t that cold. Anyhow, the most improtant thing for me would, in terms of my dogs, would be to make sure that they go to a good home. As long as they are loved and well taken care, that is all I want. They don’t need to live some posh life, as long as they feel loved. The rest of my money would probably to go to my family to ensure they are taken care of. I don’t even know if I would want to be a billionaire. I bet all that money would just bring upon so many headaches and problems.

Anyhow, I’m sure Trouble will do fine. I just hope her care taker doesn’t run off with the money and dump the dog. That would be horrible. So to the care taker, if you are looking for ways to spend that money, search no further than here.
