Since I introduced myself yesterday, I think today I’ll introduce Munchkin. She’s our little teacup Yorkie currently weighing in just over 1.5 lbs. She’s about a year and half, and healthy as can be. In our eyes, she is the cutest dog in the world. However, we all know and think that our own dogs are always the cutest. Below is a picture of Munchkin modeling some of our small dog clothes. This photo was taken at our display booth during San Diego’s “Ugly Dog Contest” at the Del Mar Fair. Munchkin took 1st place for “Cutest Dog”. We were so proud!

Anyhow, we always get the same questions from people. So I’ll include some answers.
1. Is she still a puppy? Will she stay that small?
As seen above, she is currently a little over a year and a half. She stopped growing at about 6 months of age, which is quite typical in Yorkies. Most Yorkies stop growing from about 6 -8 months of age, but there are always exceptions.
2. Is she is ‘teacup’ Yorkie?
This is a common misconception most people make. There really is no such thing as a teacup Yorkie. There is no special sub-category breed of Yorkies known as teacups. It’s fine to describe them as teacups for size matters, but there is no actual teacup breed. Some breeders are known to try to breed smaller dogs by using a smaller male and appropriate size female (to small of a female is too dangerous for breeding). Through proper experience, breeders can consistenly throw smaller pups. However, pups will always come in different sizes no matter the size of the parents.
3. Aren’t you afraid of stepping on her?
Actually, Munchkin loves to zip around our house and follow us everywhere we go. We’re careful about her presence, however usually pretty good about dodging our feet. She even sleeps in our bed every night.
4. Is she healthy?
She is extremely healthy. We’re actually quite lucky to have a dog like Munchkin with no health problems what so ever. She does make little snorting noises due to her short nose, but we thinks its absolutely cute! Our healthy dogs are no surprise to us since the dogs we breed are extremely healthy themselves. Knowing that our dogs have no health problems in their gene line gives us confidence that our pups are always healthy. It is true that teeny tiny dogs like Munchkin are more prone to health issues, but proper breeding can eliminate a lot of risk.
Having a such a healthy, happy dog that never barks is truly a blessing. Playful, loving and cute…what else can you ask for in a dog! She’s also an excellent model for our line of tiny dog clothes, small dog carriers, and designer dog collars. Well, that’s our little Munchkin in a nutshell…no pun intended! Next time, I’ll introduce Muffin.
