If you recall a couple years back, Jelani Lewis’ pet Yorkie, Gizmo, was killed after a group of men kicked his dog to death. Apparently, Jelani had let Gizmo out to use the bathroom at night, only to find screaming noises coming from around the corner after shortly letting him out. Jelani ran outside to an extremely traumatizing sight. He saw a man, Chad Crawford, hold his dog out like a football and kicking his dog through the air as if punting the dog. He also heard Chad’s associates scream out “It’s Good!” as if in a football game. Gizmo died after the tragic incident, and since then, Jelani Lewis has been seeking criminal justice in this case of extreme animal cruelty.

Jelani Lewis’ day of justice finally came true. Chad Crawford, the man accused of killing Gizmo, the 2 pound Yorkie received misdeameanor charges of animal cruelty. His sentence will include nearly 1 year in prison. Although the sentence is not a harsh as many others think it should be, Jelani Lewis is happy at least something was done in this incident to seek justice. Jelani’s biggest fear was that Chad would walk away from this incident without any punishment. In a way, a large weight was removed from Jelani’s shoulders. Chad Crawford is a very lucky man that this incident occurred before the laws changed making animal cruelty a felony.

I think that killing an animal in such a cruel manner should deserve a much harsher sentence. If you think about it, our dogs are more than just pets or animals. They are our companions and our best friends. Our dogs should be seen equal as humans and the murder of any such dog deserves a life sentence! I can only imagine what I would do if I witnessed someone kicking my dog. I’m not a violent guy, but it would be an ugly site of what I would do to such an evil person.

I’m glad the laws have since changed to make animal cruelty a felony sentence. Let’s hope something like this never happens again to any dog or any animal for that matter.
