Michael Vick Makes Me Sick
I love watching football, especially the San
Diego Chargers. However, it makes me so sick to my stomach when I see athletes
making dumb choices. They are given a gift and a lucrative career, yet there
are ones that just don’t seem to think off the field.
As everybody already knows, Michael Vick of
the Atlanta Falcons is facing federal charges against him for holding illegal
dog fights and torturing dogs that were no longer fit to fight. The dog fights
were held in order for people to wager money on a certain dog winning a fight.
Now the last time I remember, Michael Vick came upon a nice contract with the
Falcons worth $130 million over a 10 year period. I’m sure the contract also included
many potential bonuses in the millions. Why would someone risk going to prison
for dog fight purses of $10,000 to $20,000 when you’re already making tens of
millions of dollars per year? I think the man is just completely sick in the
head. Mediocre quarterback, but just sick in the head.
Furthermore, and most importantly, dog
fighting is one of the most brutal, inhumane, forms of torture that anyone can
inflict upon an animal. These dogs are probably treated like prisoners while
being beaten in order to raise their aggression levels. Then, they are pitted
against an equally terrifying beast, and forced to fight to the death. The
surviving dog usually walks away with many cuts and gashes from sometimes hours
of fighting at a time.
Next, Michael Vick is also accused of
killing dogs that were too weak to fight anymore in extremely inhumane ways such
as drowning, electrocuting, or shooting. What sort of mental illness can
possess a person to conduct such gnarly acts of cruelty? I myself don’t have
the answer, but anyone with a mind like that needs to be put away into prison.
I really hope Michael Vick gets the justice
he deserves. It will send a strong message to everybody that takes part in dog
fighting, and hopefully curb this nasty sport. Pitbulls are wonderful animals,
and Michael Vick has just ruined their reputation once again. Its people like
Vick that give the Pitbull such a horrible name. I’ve seen many Pitbulls in my
local dog park that wouldn’t hurt a fly, and are the complete opposite of what
most people perceive them as. I hope this situation with Michael Vick doesn’t
tarnish the name of the Pitbull anymore than it already has been.
